Hello everyone!!
Long time no see! This is the first time I am doing an album review in English (with Romanian translation down below), because I am very excited to share it with as many people as possible.
I have been listening to this band since I was about 15 and 7 years later I am one of their biggest fans. If you loved or missed the ‘Panic!At theDisco’; ‘Motionless in White’; ‘BMTH’ era in the early 2000’s, this band is the perfect one to bring back the nostalgia.Their album is amazing, giving that vibe,but with actual themes and subjects they come up with in their songs.
Before I begin the review and tell you my impressions, I will make a short description of the band: Palaye Royale is a Canadian-American band of art rock and glam rock based in Las Vegas, founded by three brothers: Remington Leith (vocals), Sebastian Danzig (guitar) and Emerson Barett (drums). They started their project when they were young boys, back in
2008, but they were called Kropp Circle, and they changed their name into
Palaye Royale in 2011[1].
Throughout their career, they launched 5 albums, some singles and 2 EP’s and with those they gained hearts of thousands of fans (if not, millions). Their biggest achievement will be that they will concert on the Wembley stadium on the 9th of November 2024.
With that being said, let’s dive in the review.
As I usually do, I will talk a bit about a few songs from the album that catched my attention, then about the whole album impressions in general.
Firstly, we start with the first song called just like the album’s title ‘Death or Glory’. I like how playful the melody is, how interesting the lyrics are, on how there are some people in this life who love drama and would try to soak you of your personal information just to backstab you, or cancel you, because unfortunately we live in a society where cancel culture gets stronger and stronger, and there will always be someone to try and cancel people, especially public figures. Very interesting message! I would give it an 8/10, because it’s simple and catchy, but not 100% my vibe.
Next on my list is one of the already released songs, which also has a cool music video, called ‘Showbiz’. I specifically chose this one next because the message is pretty similar to the other song, but on a deeper level. It talks about the people who take advantage of artists,
usually producers in the music industry. Once you sign with them, you basically sold your soul to the Devil. They will take your money and do as they please with them, try to abuse of your rights, destroy your privacy and make you, their puppet. ‘So, they kill another dream; Feed on my self-esteem; Well hey kids, this is showbiz!’ Gut-wrenching, powerful lyrics and cool sound, I love it! To this one I will give a 9.5/10 especially because I absolutely loved their music video (you must watch it!)
The next song, which rocked my world, is ‘Addicted to the Wicked and Twisted’. This is by far one of my favorite songs from Palaye Royale and my favorite from this album. It’s simple, sounds amazing and the chorus is sounding so cool! I feel like it speaks to me, reveals my dark side, or everyone’s dark side and it gets me to a trance I can barely exit. I got goosebumps from the first listen, and I cannot wait to see them performing it live. It just talks about how you lose yourself to manipulation and lies fed by the others and you also get addicted by it, so it has a great connection with the previous songs, how so many singers walk a dark path in their attempt to gain more money and fame. Simple, yet touching. I give it a 10/10 because I fell in Love with it from the very beginning and really vibed on it.
Last but not least, on a better light,there is the last song of the album, called ‘Pretty Stranger’. It’s like a love song, and as they also admitted, you can hear the vocalist’s girlfriend on the
background in a part of a song. I really think this is a bit like the story on how they met. He fell in love with her when she was just a “pretty stranger”. Maybe it is a “love at first sight” kind of story. It’s dancy, with some trumpets at the end and it really enlightened my mood when listening to this album. This one is probably an 8-8.5/10 because it’s cute and catchy, you can dance on it, but not my favorite type of vibe (I like their darker songs ha-ha).
Overall, what are my conclusions? How do I see this album?
Well, for me it deserves a 9/10! I love how the songs are connected just like a story, and for each era, Palaye Royale did not disappoint into making beautiful stories.
I love the sound of it and the old-school/emo vibes they bring, the way they managed to portray the dark side of the rockstar life into each song, and of course, the creativity they brought into the music videos they already released from this album (go check them out).
With that being said, those guys are amazing with everything they give to the audience, and they absolutely nailed it with the album ‘Death or Glory’. They never disappoint and I cannot wait to hear some of the new songs live, on the 20th of November, in Bucharest.

Nu ne-am mai văzut de ceva timp! Aceasta este prima dată când fac o recenzie de album atât în engleză cât și în română , pentru că sunt foarte entuziasmată să o împărtășesc cu cât mai mulți oameni posibil.
Ascult această trupă de când aveam aproximativ 15 ani, iar 7 ani mai târziu sunt una dintre cele mai mari fane a lor.
Dacă ați iubit sau v-a fost dor de era ‘Panic! At the Disco’, ‘Motionless in White’, ‘BMTH’ din anii 2000',această trupă este perfectă pentru a readuce nostalgia. Albumul lor este uimitor, aducând acea vibrație, dar cu teme și subiecte actuale pe care le abordează în piesele lor.
Înainte să încep recenzia propriu-zisă și să vă împărtășesc impresiile mele, voi face o scurtă descriere a trupei: Palaye Royale este o trupă canadian-americană de art rock și glam rock bazată în Las Vegas, aceasta fiind fondată de trei frați: Remington Leith (voce), Sebastian Danzig (chitară) și Emerson Barrett (tobe). Și-au început proiectul când erau copii, în 2008, dar se numeau Kropp Circle și și-au schimbat numele în Palaye Royale în 2011.
De-a lungul carierei lor, au lansat 5 albume, câteva single-uri și 2 EP-uri, cu care au câștigat inimile a mii de fani (dacă nu, chiar milioane). Cel mai mare succes al lor va fi concertul pe care îl vor susține pe stadionul Wembley, pe data de 9 noiembrie 2024.
Acestea fiind spuse, eu zic să trecem la recenzie.
Așa cum fac de obicei, voi vorbi puțin despre câteva piese din album care mi-au atras atenția, apoi despre impresiile generale legate de album.
Începem cu prima piesă, care are același nume ca și titlul albumului, ‘Death or Glory’. Îmi place cât de jucăușă este melodia, cât de interesante sunt versurile, despre cum există oameni în această viață care iubesc drama și încearcă să îți stoarcă informații personale
doar ca să te trădeze sau să te "anuleze", pentru că, din păcate, trăim într-o societate în care acest cancel culture devine din ce în ce mai puternic, și va exista mereu cineva care va încerca să facă o imagine proastă oamenilor, mai ales persoanelor publice. Un mesaj foarte interesant! I-aș da un 8/10, pentru că este simplă și catchy, dar nu 100% pe gustul meu.
Următoarea pe lista mea este una dintre piesele deja lansate, care are și un videoclip cool, numită ‘Showbiz’. Am ales-o specific pe aceasta pentru că mesajul este destul de similar cu cel al primei piese, dar la un nivel mai profund. Vorbește despre oamenii care profită de artiști, de obicei producători din industria muzicală. Odată ce ai semnat cu ei, practic ți-ai „vândut” sufletul Diavolului. Îți vor lua banii și vor face ce doresc cu ei, vor încerca să abuzeze de drepturile tale, să îți distrugă intimitatea și să te facă păpușa lor. ‘So, they kill another dream; Feed on my self-esteem; Well hey kids, this is showbiz!’ Versuri sfâșietoare,
puternice și un sound cool. Îmi place la nebunie! Îi dau un 9,5/10, mai ales pentru că am adorat videoclipul lor (trebuie neapărat să-l vedeți!).
Următoarea piesă that 'rocked my world', este ‘Addicted to the Wicked and Twisted’. Aceasta este de departe una dintre piesele mele preferate de la Palaye Royale și preferata mea de pe acest album. Este simplă, sună uimitor și refrenul sună atât de bine! Simt că îmi vorbește, îmi dezvăluie latura întunecată sau latura întunecată a tuturor celor ce o ascultă și mă introduce într-o transă din care abia pot ieși. Mi s-a făcut pielea de găină de la prima audiție și abia aștept să îi văd interpretând-o live. Vorbește despre cum te pierzi în manipulare și minciunile alimentate de ceilalți, așa că are o legătură grozavă cu piesele anterioare, despre cum mulți cântăreți merg pe un drum întunecat în încercarea lor de a câștiga mai mulți bani și faimă. Simplu, dar emoționant. Îi dau un 10/10 pentru că m-am îndrăgostit de ea din prima și am rezonat foarte mult .
Ultima, dar nu cea din urmă, pe o notă mai luminoasă, este ultima piesă a albumului, numită ‘Pretty Stranger’.Este un cântec de dragoste și, așa cum au recunoscut și ei, o poți auzi pe
iubita vocalistului în fundal la un moment dat în melodie. Chiar cred că aceasta este oarecum povestea modului în care s-au întâlnit. El s-a îndrăgostit de ea când era doar o “străină frumoasă”. Poate fi vorba despre o poveste de “dragoste la prima vedere”. Este dansabilă, cu niște trompete la final și chiar mi-a luminat starea de spirit când ascultam acest album. Probabil îi dau un 8-8,5/10 pentru că este drăguță și catchy, poți dansa pe ea, dar nu este genul meu preferat de vibe (îmi plac melodiile lor mai întunecate, ha-ha).
În concluzie, care este verdictul? Cum văd acest album?
Ei bine, pentru mine merită un 9/10! Îmi place cum melodiile sunt legate ca o poveste, și în fiecare eră, Palaye Royale nu a dezamăgit în a crea povești frumoase. Îmi place sunetul și
vibe-ul old-school/emo pe care îl aduc, felul în care au reușit să portretizeze latura întunecată a vieții de rockstar în fiecare piesă și, desigur, creativitatea pe care au adus-o în videoclipurile pe care le-au lansat deja de pe acest album (merită să le vedeți pe toate).
Acestea fiind spuse, acești băieți sunt uimitori cu tot ce oferă publicului și au reușit să impresioneze cu albumul ‘Death or Glory’. Nu dezamăgesc niciodată și abia aștept să aud unele dintre noile piese live, pe 20 noiembrie, în București.
